Called with different names according to the locations, Al-Galawi, Al-Molagafa, Al- Mogazafa etc. in the 70s the Ministry of Culture named it Tahtib and organize once a year a demonstrative festival in Luxor.
Sudden urbanization in Egypt (from 40% to 85% in 50 years) along with the development of urban customs created a rupture in the traditional transmission. The risk of extinction of the traditional Tahtib in the vanishing rural society is very high.
